Bullfrog Mining District.
January 2, 1908: The Diamond Queen Property, Nevada. Controlling interest in this property,
which is in the Rhyolite camp, has been acquired by New York parties, who have already deposited bonus money in the
bank of Beatty, Nevada. The consideration, which is said to be large, is not named.
January 16, 1908: Montgomery-Shoshone Consolidated Mining Company, Nevada. President Gillies' report to
stockholders shows that during the last three months of the year the company shipped 5,000,000 lbs. of ore, for
which $115,094 was received. During the preceding nine months of the year, returns from shipments aggregated
$17,000. No return is given of milling ore or of mining operations. The report further shows several million
dollars' worth of ore on the dumps and in the stopes.
January 16, 1908: The Mayflower Consolidated Mining Company has contracted with the Joshua Hendy
Iron Works of San Francisco for a 20-stamp mill to be erected immediately at its property in the Rhyolite camp.
January 30, 1908: Announcement is made that a 50-ton milling plant is to be erected at the Golden Sceptre
property in the Rhyolite camp. The Mayflower Consolidated Mining Company also announces plans for the building of a
20-stamp cyanidation plant in the Bullfrog section.
February 20, 1908: The Montgomery-Shoshone Extension Company is to immediately resume operations of its property
in the Bullfrog district. Power drills will be installed, and the main shaft continued to the 600-ft. depth. There
is also talk of the erection of a milling plant.
March 5, 1908: The Shoshone mill at Rhyolite is being remodeled, and the major portion of the plant will be idle
for a number of days. Concentration and cyanidation alone will be practiced, the amalgamating plates being
eliminated.
March 19, 1908: There is no authentic record of the occurrence of chloride of gold in nature. There have been
many reports of its occurrence, however, one of the more recent being in the Bullfrog district of Nevada.
March 19, 1908: Montgomery-Shoshone Mining Company, Nevada. A recently issued annual statement for the 12 months
of 1907 shows the splendid physical condition of the mine and an improvement in financial status. The bulk of the
indebtedness is in the form of borrowed money due Charles m Schwab and W A Clark.
April 2, 1908: It is stated that a good ore body has been recently disclosed in the Montgomery-Shoshone property
at Rhyolite. It was cut by a drift from the 600-ft. level and is said to be 4 ft. in width. The ore is white quartz
showing free gold and will average several hundred dollars per ton.
April 16. 1908: Good results are being obtained by the Montgomery Mountain Company at their properties in the
Bullfrog district. Arrangements have lately been made to obtain power from the Telluride power Plant.
April 16. 1908: Leasers on the Diamond Queen property in the same district are said to be meeting with excellent
results; on the Biddlecome-Culver lease, a 6-foot ore body, averaging $500 to the ton is reported.
April 16, 1908: Thomas Kilker has been engaged as superintendent of the Montgomery Mining Company's properties,
Bullfrog, Nevada.
April 23, 1908: Active operation are in progress at the Diamond Queen, Montgomery Mountain and West Extension
properties in the Bullfrog district. During March, $129,000 in bullion was sent out by the Montgomery Shoshone,
Keane Wonder and Gold Bar properties.
April 30, 1908: Carroll S Dempsey, Boston, Massachusetts, president of the Bullfrog Mining Syndicate, has gone
to the properties near Bullfrog, Nevada.
April 30, 1908: In the Bullfrog camp there are said to be 40 hoists in operation, five mills in operation and
three more plants under construction. There are also said to be 25 miles of development work, with an immense
tonnage of milling grade ore in sight.
May 7, 1908: Eight sets of leasers are said to be working on the Diamond Queen property at Rhyolite, all of
which are taking out high-grade ore.
May 14, 1908: The output of the Bullfrog district for the month of April is estimated at a valuation of
$150,054, the Montgomery-Shoshone being the heaviest contributor, outputting 175 tons daily, averaging $20 per ton.
During the month the Shoshone and Keane Wonder plants were not working at full capacity, and it is expected that
the production for May will show a substantial increase over the past month.
May 21, 1908: Salt Lake & Rhyolite Railroad. A company is being formed to construct a line between Salt Lake
and Rhyolite tapping Ely and Goldfield. This will shorten the distance between these points 350 miles.
May 21, 1908: The Homestake mill at Bullfrog will be started in about 30 days. According to official reports the
output of the Montgomery-Shoshone Company at Rhyolite was about $125,000 for the month of April. A shipment of 22
tons was recently made from the Eclipse tunnel of the Tramp Consolidated Mining Company; $175,444 has been recently
expended by this company to develop the water in Oasis valley, a few miles distant from the property.
May 28, 1908: According to the best information the output of the Bullfrog district for the month of April
amounted to $150,000.
