Rhyolite Jail House
On the account of the multitude of undesirable characters in the mining camp, the officers of
the town found it necessary to ask for a larger and stronger jail. In January, 1907 at a meeting of the county
commissioners the officers of Rhyolite, Nevada made a request for a new jail which was granted. The construction of
the building commenced immediately and the cost was in the neighborhood of $7,000. The jail opened in March
1907.
